KICKERfilm.com Presents the RubiX Theme for Wordpress

Download: RubiX Theme

Overview

Here is my theme I designed and developed and what you see now. It transforms Wordpress into a website rather than a blog offering a range of home page templates. It’s fairly compact with a slim navigation bar, status box and ad space to keep readers interested. Also features the other standard Wordpress features such as widgets.

Features:

  • Home Page Templates
  • Valid XHTML (1.0 Transitional, Wordpress cannot be strict and valid with current version)
  • Valid CSS (2.0)
  • Automatic Navigation Links
  • Transparent text areas and sections
  • Unique transparent backgrounds
  • Heaps of Widgets
  • Search and RSS Links (and Icon)
  • Auto Widgets
  • Neat code for you to customize
  • Tested with 2.7 – 2.8, inclusive.

Plugins

Not surprisingly some plugins will be needed if you want these videos on the front page for example. However, you don’t need them at all, you can add your own widget if you want however the width is fixed and optimized for wide screen video and other widgets.

Plugins Needed for full functionality:

  • WordTube
  • Featured Content Gallery

Settings: Width MUST be 640px and height MUST be 360px or else there will be alignment issues.

Reccomended Plugins:

  • Front-end Editor (Edit pages and posts without using the Admin Panel)
  • My Page Order (Re-arrange Navigation Bar)

All Plugins mentioned are free. I am not involved or associated with any.

Widgets

This theme takes advantage of the widget system and offers many areas to show widgets. There is 4 vertical columns in the footer which extends vertically as far as you need. The standard side bar is a little thinner than most however will still cater for many widgets. If you must make it wider I may widen it in future releases or you can do it yourself (or ask and I’ll show you how).

Tip: Only put what you want to be seen  often on the main sidebar, everything else (categories for example) can go in the footer.

Credits and Donations

Like the theme? Want to support me? Why not donate via PayPal below or maintain the credit in the footer. Both options are up to you but anything is greatly appreciated.

Click the button below to Donate securely via PayPal, the world safest way to transfer fund online.

Future Releases

These features will be added in due time:

  • Adsense Ready
  • More Templates
  • More Theme Options
  • Anything else I think of

  1. Hi,

I juts noticed today that the theme does not show right (transparency is not working. It just shows a gray background) in Internet Explorer 6, is this normally the case? I think it’s okay with versions 7 and 8 but obviously a few people may still be using 6. Are there any other incompatibility issues with other versions of browsers?

    Thanks,

    J:)

  2. Internet Explorer 6 cannot handle transparency in .png images however I believe there is a hack for it. Every other browser can display it correctly. Try these links:

I haven’t tried any of these.

Thanks for trying my theme as well!

  3. Really awesome theme, polished feel!

How do I get rid of the auto-widgets?
I don’t want to see any widgets at all right now.

    Cheers,

  4. Thanks for using my theme Swaan!

Here is a few ways to solve your problem.

To remove the “auto-widgets” but retain the sidebar for later use open up sidebar.php and delete everything except for:

    < ?php
    if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar('Main Sidebar') ) :
    ?>
    < ?php endif; ?>

Note: Remove spaces between “< " and "?php"

To remove the sidebar (and “auto widgets”; makes the sidebar unusable) you will need to edit the theme slightly. Firstly open up these files in Notepad or any other text editor (Do not use Word or other word processing applications: index.php, single.php, archive.php and page.php.

Firstly, delete all instances of this bit of code < ?php get_sidebar(); ?> in each file. Then you will need to adjust the class names of the div tags. Simply change “narrowcolumn” to “widecolumn” in each file and you should be good to go.

Optional: For pages you can use the Page-Wide template instead of editing that bit of code.

Also, once you add your own widget all the “auto-widgets” are removed.

To regain use of the sidebar do the opposite of what you just did or re-download the template.

I will add this feature to newer versions of the theme soon! Thanks for the idea and using my theme.

  6. Testing your theme at storyballoon.org
I’d like to use it for storyballoon.org/videos..but it’s not wide enough (video width 832).
Is there a way to widen the post section and give it two widget ready sidebars and get rid of “categories” widget in the footer?
Using Simplicity theme I have the post at 835 and the sidebars at 180. Simplicity lets you choose fluid or fixed width and the sidebar size. Is it possible to implement that option into your theme myself or you doing it? You can download that theme to see what I mean at wordpess org extends

Feel free to email at the address I entered.

  7. The theme is designed to be only be 900 pixels wide inclusive of the side bar to give a reasonably viewable website to people with low resolutions.

To remove the categories auto-widget, just open footer.php and delete the appropriate code (Look for the heading tags). Alternatively, just add your own widget and the auto widget should be removed.

Adding a section sidebar wouldn’t be too tricky, but time consuming also. Unfortunately I can’t add another sidebar in to the theme. If you wish to attempt it yourself, there are plenty of resources at wordpressdotorg. Sorry I can’t help you further.

  8. Kickerman,
This theme rocks, dude! Very sleek, awesome look!
    I have two questions:
    1) Is there something I can do to get a “click to enlarge” feature for any images I insert into my posts?
    and
    2) Is there a way to set the number of posts per page, so a viewer will get an option of clicking on “previous posts” and “more recent posts” at the bottom of a page?

Thanks, man. Not only does this theme rock, your site rocks big time too!

  9. The two questions I had above have both worked out. No need for a response. Thanks!
